Motherhood, Faith, Fitness, Nutrition. We've got you covered
The holidays are over and the kiddos are back in school. You’ve just busted your tail for weeks or mor like months on end to make sure your family enjoyed a fabulous holiday season. Perhaps despite all of the beautiful new memories you’re feeling a little weary.
Why is it that Mom never gets a chance to rejuvenate? Mom- you’re IMPORTANT too! We’ve just begun Momsanity’s 2015 Revival and we want to kick it off with some tips just for YOU!! If you’re determined to make 2015 your best year yet then the time is NOW!
1. Time with God is non-negotiable: I’m guilty. I’ve gone days? weeks? without opening my Bible. I KNOW that I’m not putting God first, but I still justify it with “busy”. Truth… those weeks are never good- my personality, motives, intentions and more are skewed. I need the Word to fill me every single day- and so do you. The You VersionBible app offers audio for those of us who prefer listening and there are countless devotions available there. Another great new app called She Reads Truth is fantastic as well. Jennie Allen’s IF Equip also sends out daily verses and commentary. Finally there is a newer app called Into The Word that offers a many sermon on the scripture for the day. Don’t. Let. This. Slip. From. Your. Priority. List!
2. Mommy Time is Important: Like anything else if we don’t prioritize it, then it won’t happen. I find that many Christian Mamas feel guilty for taking time for themselves. Please tell me how “me” time makes you selfish? Does running yourself ragged really make you a better Mom? I’m not sure about you, but a little break makes me a much BETTER mom. This doesn’t have to be a time consuming or expensive ordeal. Take a bubble bath, read a magazine, EXERCISE, go for a walk by yourself, paint your nails. Whatever will brighten your day- DO IT. Send your kids out of the room and just make it happen. Teaching them to respect Mommy’s Time is a great thing- it doesn’t make you neglectful or weak- it helps you feel REVIVED!
3. Feed Your Body Well: You cannot makeover your life and eat crap. I’ve watched so many people try to overhaul their finances, exercise routine, body image and much more while continuing to eat out of wrappers all day- or worse- hardly eating at all. It’s really interesting that when nutrition is off it’s really really hard to make positive changes in other areas of our lives. Your food is the most powerful input (other than your thoughts) that you give your body. God gave us food to nourish our bodies- eat as closely to the Earth as you’re able as often as you’re able. This might sound overly “crunchy”, but give it a shot!
4. Don’t use the words always or never… You will set yourself up for failure. This is true when we’re talking to our kids, spouses, friends or selves. Do your relationships a favor and lose the empty promises and accusations This looks like this- “You never pick up your toys when I ask” or “You always have to have the last word” or “I’m NEVER going to eat oreos again”. None of these leads to a positive outcome.
5. Mind Your Defense Mechanisms: These are things like avoidance, regression and projection. If we’re going to end 2015 at our best yet then we’ve got to tackle our “issues” head on. Recognize your default reactions, work on them, pray about them, and watch your your relationships change for the better.
6. Create a Mission: What is your mission for 2015? Is it that your family serves more or perhaps that you say No more often? Or that you have more energy? What specific steps are required to accomplish your mission? How will you get from Point A to Point B? Write it Down!! Note- This should NOT be about a number on the scale.
7. Spend time with People. We do this well in our own families- and maybe with a close group of friends. But meeting new people with new perspectives and challenges and journeys is refreshing and healthy. I love the song “make new friends but keep the old, one is silver and the other gold”.
8. Learn Something New. Always wanted to learn to knit? Have an interest in church history? Want to be able to change a car tire? Just because you’re a Mom doesn’t mean it’s time to stop learning. Can’t make it to an in-person class? You can learn just about anything online these days. Go for it!
