Beating the Winter Blahs

I have a hard time in the Winter.  It’s tough for me.  I think I could likely be diagnosed with Seasonal Affective Disorder.  My mood, energy, gumption and overall demeanor just change in the winter months.  I don’t like to be inside, I don’t like to wear lots of clothes, I don’t like cold, I don’t like minimal daylight hours.  I could make my list go on and on….  I aspire to be a snow bunny (I grew up in a place where it snows from October to April) but I’m just not.

SO… how do we make it through the winter months without losing our marbles?  I have to do everything on this list to maintain my sanity during the cold months.  I would love to hear your favorites so let us know!

Here we go:

  1. Choose a few indoor projects to knock out before Spring (think cleaning out closets)
  2. Keep Leisure Walking (do it on the treadmill if you have to)
  3. Take Vitamin D with K2
  4. Get outside whenever weather permits
  5. Use saunas, do hot yoga, etc.
  6. Keep Exercising- Resist the urge to be lazy and hibernate.  It will make you feel worse.
  7. Get out of the house.  Take your kids to the museum, indoor zoo, trampoline park etc.
  8. Plan Spring and Summer Activities (better yet go somewhere warm in the winter)
  9. Brighten indoor spaces with more lighting or use a light box
  10. Eat (dark) chocolate and cocoa powder (ME Cocoa is our favorite) for mood boosting
  11. Listen to upbeat music
  12. Pray
