1 Timothy 4:8 says: For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.
SOME VALUE. Physical training has some value but is not everything. However, godliness has value for ALL THINGS. ALL THINGS. What that means is exercise is important but it should not become an obsession. What matters the MOST is godliness. Focusing on Christ and mirroring Him in our thoughts, words and actions is what our earthly existence is about. Not 60 more minutes on the elliptical.
I have talked to countless women who are so FRUSTRATED. You hate your thighs. Your butt is saggy. You are doing your best to exercise and eat right but results are slooooowwwwww.
What the heck are we to do?!
Start between your ears, not the thigh-master. Set your mind on things above. Whatsoever things are lovely, think on these things. Exercise is good. It’s important. It’s vital. But it’s not EVERYTHING. Eternal perspective, knowing we’ll spend forever not at the gym or in front of a mirror, has to impact us. Let’s put Christ FIRST. Let’s have grace with ourselves. Body change sometimes happens at a snail’s pace. When you feel frustrated, take a breath and remember you are a daughter of the King. You may always have bat wing arms. But you are a friend of the universe’s Creator and that trumps everything else.
If you have to pick how you’ll spend 20 minutes of free time, choose time with Jesus instead of working out.
What does this look like in your life? How do you keep a proper balance in YOUR life, mom?
