Favorite Things: COFFEE!

Isn’t it funny how we have really specific preferences about certain things?  I’m totally there with coffee.  I PREFER to make my own my way at home rather than ordering out.  It’s good I suppose as it’s much cheaper.

Here Are My Biggies when it comes to coffee:

1.  Buy Organic.  Coffee is one of the most heavily sprayed crops out there.  If you are drinking multiple cups daily it’s really important to be sure you’re using organic.  It doesn’t have to be crazy expensive.  This can is $7.99 at Trader Joe’s.  You can also buy in bulk at Costco and the like.

2. Use filtered water and avoid plastic. Water quality is super important these days. Don’t use water out of your tap in your coffee maker. Toxins, antibiotics, hormones etc. are all in our water supply. We have a Le Bleu premium water dispenser in our kitchen. It’s WAY cheaper than buying tons of bottled water. I use a Keurig Machine with a refillable filter (no plastic disposables) that I love. Make sure to change your filters and clean your water holder regularly to avoid mold and mildew.

3. Sweeten appropriately. Stay away from sugar and artificial sweeteners. I love Stevia drops (particularly those from Trader Joe’s as they are more natural and I enjoy the flavor best). If you want to add a little flavor go for a natural flavoring like Organic Maple Extract rather than the artificial flavorings or flavored coffee. Unfortunately flavored coffees are not usually well labeled and the flavoring is often artificial. If you have a reliable source then go for it. I also add a splash of unsweetened almond or flax milk to my coffee for the perfect cup!

4. Don’t miss the best part. Pick your favorite mug (I LOVE my Momsanity mug from Cafe Press) and dig into your Bible. Something about coffee and God’s word just really go well together :)
