(here’s me with our Guest Blogger from last week, Becky Johnston)
HI EVERYONE! IT’S TIME FOR ANOTHER FUN ROUND OF GETTING TO KNOW ALL ABOUT COACH DEBBIE! IN CASE YOU MISSED THEM, CHECK OUT MY FIRST TWO ARTICLES ABOUT MYSELF SO YOU CAN GET CAUGHT UP ON THE SOAP OPERA I CALL L-I-F-E.
1. http://projectmomsanity.com/?p=492
2. http://projectmomsanity.com/?p=854
SO THIS IS LIKE A SPEED-DATING VERSION OF RANDOM TIDBITS ABOUT MYSELF. AND I’M AN OPEN BOOK SO MAKE SURE TO ASK ANY QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE.
WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU GREW UP: a secretary
3 PET PEEVES: unflushed toilets, whining, talking on the radio
WHAT SHOULD WE KNOW ABOUT COACH KATE: her hair is more gorgeous in person than in pictures and she is always cheerful
WHAT SHOULD WE KNOW ABOUT COACH EMILY: she is so organized and ambitious and has inner drive like no one else
HOW OFTEN DO YOU WORK OUT: not as much as I’d like; some weeks it’s twice a week, other times I get 4 workouts in. I love exercising while my kids play nearby or when they’ve gone to bed at night.
CHILDHOOD MOTTO: “You’re not my boss!” I had 3 older siblings (I adore my brother and twin sisters)
RANDOM FACTS ABOUT YOURSELF: I’m high maintenance; I take forever to get ready in the morning. I love Starbucks. I am a fan of consigned clothes. I’m lazy and I procrastinate. My house is always a mess. I love techno music in a deep way. I used to be a 4th grade teacher. I used to hate exercise. I love roller coasters.
YOU’RE A WIDOW. TELL US ABOUT YOUR LATE HUSBAND: Aaron and I met at Appalachian State in North Carolina, senior year. We were married within 2 years. He was a godly man with a servant’s heart who loved teaching PE and playing sports with his students since he was a giant child. He was a hands-on dad to our sons. I wanted two kids and he wanted a dozen. He liked hugging anyone who’d let him, helping stranded drivers on the side of the road, and would mow yards with one of our kids in a backpack carrier. He gardened, hiked, camped, prayed, kayaked, acted pitiful when sick, rocked our babies to sleep, and had a great laugh. His tragic accident last August was brutal. One of my deepest fears happened. The deal I had with God (insert laughter) was that he and I die together or that I die first. Nope. I say this to share that whatever your fears are, you are stronger than you think you are. God is mightier than we give him credit for. God is sovereign, provider, love. He has good plans for you. And how sweet that Aaron and God get to hang out together all the time now!
HOW DO YOU CUT CORNERS IN LIFE AS A SINGLE MOM: I have my kids help more around the house, friends have run errands for me, I’ve ordered groceries online, I get my house cleaned twice a month, I eat out more (making sure to get meat and veggies), and I have babysitters come over way more often now too. We are still adjusting, so I flounder as I learn to survive in my new role. Single moms, I’m new here, so please suggest away on the Momsanity Facebook page on your tips for making things run smoothly!
