Is God my Santa?

by Coach Debbie

Isn’t it easy to just read the “fun” and “easy” and “comforting” parts of the Bible and avoid the convicting ones that reveal our sinful nature?  Psalm 20 is one that at first read appears pretty sweet and neatly packaged.  But are we living it out and putting our full confidence in God?  I decided to dismantle Psalm 20 and reword it according to the way even Christians may actually live it out.

ITALIC TEXT = THE WAY THE WORLD TENDS TO PUT THINGS

BLACK TEXT = THE HOLY WORD OF GOD

Debbie’s 20 Lines

Psalm 20

May my credit card answer me when I’m in distress.

May the LORD answer you when you are in distress;

May my abilities and hard work and knowledge protect me.

May the name of the God of Jacob protect you.

May vodka send me help from the refrigerator.

May he send you help from the sanctuary

And grant me support from my facebook friends.

And grant you support from Zion.

May he remember I’m a pretty good person who volunteers

May he remember all your sacrifices

And accept my insincere apologies though I don’t plan to change

And accept your burnt offerings.

May he give me everything I want, especially that cute necklace

May he give you the desire of your heart

And make all my plans go perfectly as I demand

And make all your plans succeed.

We will shout for joy when we get our way

We will shout for joy when you are victorious

And pat ourselves on the back

And will lift up our banners in the name of our God.

May the LORD be my Santa Claus

May the LORD grant all your requests.

I know I’m God’s favorite

Now I know that the LORD saves his anointed;

He better answer quickly and with a ‘yes’ or else

He answers him from his holy heaven

With the help of my right hand

With the saving power of his right hand.

Some trust in cash and some in jobs

Some trust in chariots and some in horses,

But we trust in ourselves and our hard-work

But we trust in the name of the LORD our God.

I’m so glad it’s not me that falls

They are brought to their knees and fall,

I rise up with arrogance

But we rise up and stand firm.

True might and lasting power comes from God.  Worship and submit.

He is to be our first response to all situations.  Seek Him, Ask Him, Praise Him.

He is caring and capable.  Trust in the Eternal Victor.

He is all-knowing and all-powerful.   Stop thinking your way is the best / only way.

He is NOT Santa.
