Psalm 23

by Coach Debbie

Are there any passages in the Bible that you’ve read so many times that you easily skim over them?  You read them but they may not *pop* off the page to you anymore.  Is Psalm 23 one of those?  That’s the one that says, “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.”

Would you be willing to go grab your Bible and a pen?  I’ll wait for you to get back.  Go.  I’m going to ask you to write in your Bible.  I’d like to break down the AMAZING qualities of God that this Psalm contains.  By slowing down our reading, we can really grasp all of the detailed beauty.  I’m going to post God’s Word in black ink then the red text will be His qualities to notice.  We serve a mighty God who deserves our praise!

PSALM 23

“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.”

HE IS CARING AND CONCERNED AS HE PROVIDES AND PROTECTS.

“He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, He restores my soul.”

HE WANTS US TO HAVE REST AND PEACE.

“He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.”

HE SECURELY GUIDES US WITH A PURPOSE.

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
HE IS PRESENT AND HE IS COMFORTING AS HE SHIELDS US.

“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.”

HE GIVES US FAVOR IN THE FORM OF FRIENDSHIP AND PROTECTION.

“You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.”

HE BLESSES US ABUNDANTLY.

“Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.”

HE KNOWS OUR FUTURE AND WILL BE WITH US FOREVER.

Use your pen to jot some of these notes in the margins of your Bible so that you can be reminded of His goodness!
