Motherhood, Faith, Fitness, Nutrition. We've got you covered

Seeing God in the Face of Your Children

A few weeks back I enjoyed seeing the responses to the question “What’s Next?” from brand new college graduates from my alma mater Wake Forest University. I marveled over the fact that I walked across the stage and received my diploma 9 years ago – DANG where does the time go?  As I read where each of these young people were going with their lives I couldn’t help but ponder over the path that God has paved since my wide eyed new graduate days.

Ever daydream about how you got to where you are in your life and the circumstances you are in (whether you’re on cloud 9 or slugging it through each day)?  I do.

Do you ever feel like the World’s Best Mom and in the same day also like a miserable failure of a parent?  I do.

Do you ever wonder why God is making you wait or why he won’t slow things down?  I do.

We are humans- God is not.

Motherhood is a crazy thing isn’t it?  The swings between high and low are sharp and fast and unpredictable.  I’ve never met a Mom who didn’t have at least one story to share about how she wanted to escape at some point during the journey.

Let’s back up:

“Through Him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made,” John 1:3

God created your circumstances, your child, you as a parent and everything else in your life.  Both you and your kids are his creation and his perfect design.  They are crazy, loud, screaming, pooping, puking, cuddly, kissy, slobbery, sticky, precious creatures that HE made in HIS image.  Wow!!!

God chose you as the parent of his children.  You are their Earthly parents with an immense opportunity for joy and a huge responsibility during the short time that they are here on Earth.  He created you as not only the person but also the  parent.  It’s a job he’s assigned you- Newsflash:  he appointed you to be in a REALLY big job.

God expects parents to raise their children to serve Him.

Proverbs 22:6 says:  “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”

Whether you are working your tail off outside the home or inside the home- what you are doing matters.  God is working RIGHT NOW in your life and priming you for his Kingdom.  Look for him in your children- yes really!  Allow the wonders of your children and motherhood to remind you that your life- no matter how ordinary it might seem- is more than worthwhile.  It’s exactly where you are supposed to be.  Be confident in your position. God created you for it and is expecting you to fulfill the role he has put you in.  He has big things in store for you.  Are you ready for the ride?
