Want to Jump Rope?

By Emily Saunders

I didn’t love jumping rope as a kid.  In fact I was pretty terrible at it so I never picked one up after about 5th grade.  A few years ago my friend Tara started jump roping at home as an alternative form of cardio.  I ordered on on Amazon and low and behond here we are a couple of years later and I almost always jump rope at least a couple of times per week.

A few pointers for picking out a jump rope:

1.  Pick one that’s an appropriate length for your height or else you’ll be messing up a lot.

2.  Choose a “hard” rubber version rather than a soft one or one with lengths.

3.  Make sure you like the way the handles feel.  I personally prefer when the rope goes directly into the handle rather than having an attachment device.

A few tips for jump rope workout preparation:

1.  It takes practice.  I was pretty terrible for a while but got better quickly.

2.  Go pee right before your workout.  If you’ve delivered babies this needs no further explanation

3.  Choose the flattest, most even surface available.  Asphalt, concrete, hardwoods, vinyl, non-cushioned carpet etc.
