You Suck.

by Coach Debbie

You are not a good person.

No matter what you think.  No matter how hard you try.  Regardless of what others say.

The Bible tells us so.  Crack open the middle of The Book to Psalm 14 and follow along with me.  Got your highlighter?  Get ready, this isn’t one of those Scriptures people read at their weddings.

“there is no one who does good.

The Lord looks down from heaven on the sons of men

to see if there are any who understand,

any who seek God.

All have turned aside,

they have together become corrupt;

there is no one who does good,

not even one.”

Psalm 14:1b-3

(Might as well flip to Romans 3:10-12 to confirm just how worthless and unrighteous you are)

Don’t exit this article because it’s not warm and fuzzy like you wanted.

Only God is perfect.  We are guilty of breaking His rules and being lovers of ourselves; we need His forgiveness.  Are we too busy relying on our own strength, following our own rules, chasing earthly pleasures, pretending foolishness is permissible?

Okay, the Band-Aid has been ripped off. Here’s the good news.  And it’s so so so good.  God knows we fall short.  God loves you immeasurably.  He chose to suffer death to save you.  Though your thoughts, words and actions deceive you into thinking highly of yourself (“I’m not that bad of a person.  It’s not like I kill people.”), He offers redemption.  He knows we need Him.  His pure holiness transforms us into innocence.  He values you.

Confess your waywardness.

Ask Him to change you.

Spend time with Him.

Love Him and receive His love.

Let your corrupt heart make you realize your desperation for Him.

So you’re not a good person.  But Christ cloaks you in His righteousness, should you allow Him.   And your wrongdoings are not only forgiven, but also forgotten.  Permanently.  God sees you as He sees Christ.  Throw confetti in the air over that one and praise Him!
